5 women entrepreneurs on overcoming doubt and launching your dreams

Ata Plus Female
As a platform that frequently hosts high-spirited women entrepreneurs, we’ve come to notice that women often face challenges that our male counterparts may not equally be subjected to. Despite the obstacles, these trailblazing women leaders have gone against the odds to pursue their passion.

In tandem with Ata Plus’ International Women’s Month campaign – #WomenOnFire – and in no particular order of accomplishment, here are 5 incredible entrepreneurs who have shared their insights and advice for all budding female entrepreneurs.

“Choose YOU”

In Southeast Asia, I think women have been prescribed roles that ease the consciousness of others, but not the individual. So when a female entrepreneur decides to pour energy towards community development endeavors or prioritise other aspects in her life (e.g.: career, travels, etc) besides the ones culturally imposed (e.g.: marriage, family, long-term job, high-paying salary, etc), this unconventional path is poorly understood – let alone respected.

I believe it is truly important to receive encouragement and healthy support from families and friends when a woman decides to be an outlier. Having this from her closest units shape stronger and fearless female role models. We should also look at developing mentorship programmes designed for women’s struggles and engineered by women, for women, that compare global cross-cultural and intergenerational understanding, consequently polishing women towards becoming transformational leaders. This should be done by way of education on all cranial aspects that do not just depend merely on degrees and features, but also by way of understanding the ‘hows’ of the world we currently live in today – not perceive.

As Ata Plus celebrates its International Women’s Month, I’d like to support the campaign’s message by urging all women to prioritise themselves above others; dress up, eat well, embrace knowledge, build your personal branding, be more graceful when upset, and dare to raise your standards. Attaining these will drive your confidence and decision-making skills through the roof! That said, I #ChoosetoChallenge every woman to passionately go after what you want, to do what you love, and above all – to recognise your worth.

I challenge you to go forth with courage. And CHOOSE YOU.

“Always Offer Something New!”

MCO has certainly not made it easy. But, patiently finding our focus and getting through it with a unique venture that allows our creativity to flow – is something we definitely don’t take for granted.

We also recognise that women-owned businesses are now far more possible and encouraging compared to the past. So we are really motivated to take this opportunity to follow current trends and offer something new everytime people visit our cafe. We are excited to continuously improve and evolve not only to stimulate our creative capabilities, but also to meet the ever-changing expectations of the market. We are still at the trial and error phase, but we do wish to soon expand – even dare try our hand at events!

So in celebration of Ata Plus’ International Women’s Month, we #ChoosetoChallenge more women to step forward and feel inspired to get out there and do something new! Just do it because, better this than regret never trying at all! Even though times can and will get tough – as long as you are tougher, you never know what can happen.

“Turn Your Passion Into Profession”

As a musician and entrepreneur, keeping a balance can be challenging – especially when creative juices flow abundantly… and unexpectedly! One of the dilemmas I often face is getting my ideas organised! Many times, my mind is so stretched to meet the different demands required by the multiple projects I’m involved in – that I forget to prioritise what can wait, and what needs immediate attention. Therefore, I choose to challenge a better sense of discretion for myself to complete tasks in order of priority.

I’ve also always hoped to inspire other women to pursue their dreams and lift each other up! With that said, I’m well in the process of collaborating with a few other beautiful and talented local female artists, so I’m really excited about all the good stuff steadily in the pipeline throughout 2021!

In support of Ata Plus’ International Women’s Month, I #ChoosetoChallenge all women to go out there and stay fearless at following the rhythm of the life that they’ve chosen to lead for themselves!

Ooi Bee Hong, Founder of Damai Studio and Cafe

“Show Up For Yourself!”

After travelling extensively for decades, my experiences fuelled me with courage and belief to break out of my comfort zone and better face challenges in life. One of the results of this awakening is Damai Studio and Cafe – a conscious playground I had envisioned for like-minded souls to come together within a safe space and engage in mindful practices.

I’m so glad I listened to my heart and trusted my instincts to guide me in this journey. Now, Damai has such an amazing community that is blossoming and still continues to flourish!

I #ChoosetoChallenge women who are in doubt of themselves about pursuing their dreams. I strongly encourage you to overcome the limitations you believe you may have in your subconscious mind –  which could block you from becoming the person you really want to be. My stance in celebration of Ata Plus’ International Women’s Month, is to trust yourself that you are more than you know. Love yourself more everyday, dare be your own warrior – and show up for yourself!

Unlocking your vision isn’t a straightforward path. It doesn’t happen overnight and it’s different for everyone, as exemplified by the incredible entrepreneurs above. From personal connection to pure determination, these women have built their businesses in ways that make sense for them, and we hope you’re empowered to forge your own path into achieving your dreams.
